Since I lived a number of years in various Ohio locales I rooted for the Cincinnati Bengals during good times and bad ... and there were plenty of bad times.
And as the sport of American football has 'evolved' to glorify narcissistic pass receivers (what is it with these guys?), Cincinnati managed to land what was to become the most prolific self-promoter of them all, a dude named Chad Javon Johnson.
Mr. Johnson has gone through multiple metamorphoses (and now teams), trying to reinvent and rename himself as he has moved from the field to TV to the Internet and, lastly, to jail.
Not surprising that he married a 'TV reality star,' but apparently after a month of bliss the shine has worn off the nuptials but not the missus' forehead thanks to an alleged head-butt from the now unemployed (and likely unemployable) Mr. Johnson.
Again, I don't know what it is about professional football receivers who simply must have the spotlight on them at all times. It seems the more attention these individuals draw to themselves the less productive they become. Just ask Jeremy Shockey or Randy Moss or Plaxico Burress.
I guess it goes along with the craving to be famous as opposed to the drive to be successful. Some in America who become famous through success find that they can handle neither and become even more famous for they way they crash and burn.
In the US, the only thing we like better than to see someone succeed is to feast on them when they fail.
The current avenue to witness such self-implosion is Twitter — the gift that keeps on giving us more morons than we care to know.
Just recently we have had Olympic failures in the form of a Swiss soccer player and a Greek triple jumper both of whom fell from grace (and their teams) for tweeting racist messages.
But if someone ever decides to create an awards show for the biggest moron of the year (and it may already exist), Chad Javon Johnson Ochocinco Johnson Alleged Newlywed Wife-Beater would get a dozen roses from yours truly.
btw: here's a list of not famous morons.
update: Things aren't getting any better for Mr. Johnson.
