The end is near (or God hates politics)

   I'm not sure if anyone else has broached this subject, but have you noticed the major political events of 2012 have been affected by storms?
   The Republican convention in Tampa got off to a fitful start with the first day being canceled as then Tropical Storm Isaac bounced off the Florida coast. {And as if New Orleans ever felt complacent again the storm gave the Crescent City a reminder slap.}
   After landfall, Isaac meandered around before taking aim at the Democrats in Charlotte, wetting down the early portion of the convention before pushing the festivities indoors for the re-coronation of President Obama.
   Last week, as the campaigns headed down the home stretch, Hurricane Sandy swept through the most densely populated portion of the US and provided photo-ops for the president at the scene and Mitt Romney collecting water and clothes in Ohio.
  Now, a nor'easter has its sights set on NY/NJ, expected to come ashore ... on election night.
   And of course the millions who are starving, homeless and powerless in the East may not even have the ability to vote Tuesday as officials scramble to ship in voting machines as well as make plans for votes to be cast online (although if you don't have power how can you get online?).
   It's as if Mother Nature and Father Time put their heads together and decided they'd had enough of the politics in this country.
   Or, if you prefer, God said, "Piss on this! I'll show them all who's really in charge here."
   Or, if you're a doomsdayer, this oddly timed march of storms is a warmup to Dec. 21 — a predicted date for the end of the world as we know it.
   If that's the case it really doesn't matter who wins the election this time around. I say this time around because I have my doubts we will have a winner Tuesday night. With the closeness of the race for the White House and likely counting chaos in states like Ohio and Florida, we may not know the outcome this week or even this year.
   Remember 2000? We may have a bigger nightmare in store.
