I've been considering which language(s) the offspring might utter [along with the inescapable American English] as she grows and goes to school and beyond.
What will she want to know? What will she need to know?
Given the toddler's heritage, Russian, Armenian and German immediately come to mind as possibles.
However, Russian may be a bit of a pointless exercise as that mobbed-up kleptocracy seems hell bent on drinking itself to death. Meanwhile, its former satellites grow even more independent while returning to their mother tongues. Will Armenian thus make a comeback?
And how much more Russian does one need to know other than "da," "nyet" and "vodka"?
In terms of a 'need to know' basis, Spanish has to be a front-runner as downstate Florida {where we be} appears awash in Southern Hemispherians.
Chinese seems another 'near must' language for the future. God knows they're working overtime to learn English (all 1,325,000,000 of them) and either we'll be buddies or adversaries — crucial global players, either way.
So we'll see.
