What's most interesting about this swine flu screaming is where it {purportedly} first squealed onto the scene: Mexico. And how convenient for the anti-[illegal] immigration crowd that the first death on U.S. soil from the porcine pox is in fact that of a Mexican infant.
The pressure is directly applied to the neck of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, whose home state of Arizona (porously) borders the burgeoning narco-state. The whole mess is probably less a health threat than a boon for the isolationist nationalistic crowd who will recruit in its wake. Even Letterman had a joke Tuesday night about closing the Mexican border.
Aside from that, the ill-timed death of the Matamoros munchkin is really throwing a damper on Mr. Obama's First 100-days' party [well, that and that whole Air Force One buzz of Gotham City].
Juxtaposed against the Fear the Pig crusade, Mr. Obama was in St. Louis today, splaining to the folks why contracts bearing non-performance bonuses for inept Wall Street greedmeisters are sacrosanct, but pacts for teetering autoworkers need to be ripped up ... now.
Commanding center court at a high school gym, the president worked the town hall setting with his usual grace; elegantly answering questions, inducing applause with each flourish of verbiage.
This guy is money. People thought Reagan wore Teflon, Obama may be made of titanium. He was able to tell the trove of teachers that their day is coming, too, that the union is going to have to be flexible and allow 'non-traditional paths' to the head of the classroom — and they lustily applauded.
Let's hope the next 100 days go as smoothly for The Man. If he pulls off half of what he wants to and catches some breaks during his watch he just might stay in office past 2016.
But, wait, what's that ruckus over there?
... sigh ...
(Pssst, will you Pakis just pipe down? please!)
