I haven't been sleeping too well, maybe it's because some things just have to be uttered:
To this day, I cannot believe that Lenny Kravitz would ever even be qualified enough to carry Jimi Hendrix's vomit bucket, and yet ...
The Wiki on Lenny claims the man "is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and arranger whose "retro" style incorporates elements of rock, soul, funk, reggae, hard rock, psychedelic, folk and ballads." (Give it a rest; he has no idea who he is other than a brand.)
"In addition to singing lead and backing vocals, Kravitz often plays all the guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and percussion himself when recording." (Ah, no wonder it sounds like crap and further proof that he has no focus: he has to try all the instruments because he isn't good at any one of them ... unless they're trying to pass him off as possessing some kind of Stevie Wonderesque quality. Again; give it a rest.)
Jimi Hendrix never won any Grammy Awards. Apparently Mr. Kravitz was handed the "Best Male Rock Vocal Performance" for four straight years for whichever artist he covered or "incorporated" into his orchestrated output.
As Stephen Colbert noted his introduction last night, the Grammys celebrate “the right of celebrities to congratulate one another.”
As an exasperated Woody Allen observed more than 30 years ago, "All they do out here is give out awards: 'Greatest fascist dictator — Aldoph Hitler.'"
To corroborate my horror, neither Led Zeppelin, The Who, Queen, or (can you believe it) Diana Ross ever won a Grammy Award.
There, I've said it.
Now, did you know "Rain Man" (1988) and "Twins" (1988) are the same story?
