Well, we did it; we switched our phone/tv/internet "provider" to save money (it's incredible what Verizon charges for what it delivers) to bask in yet another stupidly created maze from more marketeers of mediocrity.
Today, all I wanted to find was a one channel out of about 300 which would show me a current weather radar (because, as a moron, I could look out the window and see darkness on the far horizon) and gave up trying to find one. As mentioned in a previous blog, God forbid The Weather Channel (much like MTV quit on the music) should provide weather radar in the afternoons, and I have yet to find an alternative from our new service provider as all of the channels have changed and although there are 300 channels, we really only watch about a dozen of them (my wife barely watches more than one channel, the same with our 3-year-old).
Another factor enhanced by "competition" in our market, is that both "providers" lied to us by saying, "Oh, yes, you get to keep your existing phone number when you move."
We lived shortly in an apartment before we bought our home. We've been here 17 months. We are on our third phone number.
So while there is "choice" each provider does all it can to initially dazzle you and reach into your wallet all the while creating an operating system so Byzantine to operate that the customer would ever loathe to change again.
And yet in order to find a current radar screen I've got to get on the internet.
